Practical Protection Podcast: High cholesterol
Hi everyone, in the previous episode of the Practical Protection Podcast I was joined by Alain Desmier from Contact state. We focused on a number of things, such as the lead generation, consumer consent and the FCA Consumer Duty Principle.

For the newest episode, I am joined by Matt Rann. We are discussing high cholesterol and the role it might play in applying for protection insurance. Did you know, 6 out of every 10 adults in the UK has high cholesterol?
Unlike other conditions, there aren’t symptoms of high cholesterol, meaning it can go a long time without being diagnosed. The negative of that is that high cholesterol can often be prevented if caught early on and people can miss the opportunity to tackle it. Eating healthy and exercising regularly are both recommended to those who might be at risk of or have high cholesterol.
Having high cholesterol can impact protection insurance applications, and that’s because having a high cholesterol can put you at more risk of developing other health conditions, such as a stroke, heart attack or vascular dementia. Matt also goes on to talk about familial hypercholesterolaemia, and how the terms you might see when disclosing this on an application might be different.
Different insurers will assess applications in different ways, which is why it’s important to research which insurer will be the best option for each specific situation. Though in general, a high cholesterol of under 5 is seen as ok, and over 6 is considered to be high.

Next time, I’m joined by Ruth Gilbert. We will be talking about trusts and the payout planners available with some insurers.
