Practical Protection Podcast: Grief Chat
Hi everyone, in the previous episode of the Practical Protection Podcast I was joined by Matt Rann and we focused on why I’ve been declined income protection. We spoke about my health conditions and why they have resulted in me being declined personal income protection by all insurers. We hope it gives you an insight into those conditions further and that group insurance is always another avenue to explore, if you do come across declines for personal income protection.

Myself and Roy McLoughlin are joined by special guest Catherine Betley from Grief Chat for this episode. Grief Chat is an organisation offering anonymous access to trained counsellors, to help people through difficult times.
It’s not always easy knowing what to say to a person experiencing grief, but being present and showing you care can really make a big difference.
Grief counselling is different from mental health support. You might wonder why dedicated grief services are needed, and it becomes much clearer when Catherine shares that they had nearly 50k conversations in 2021. That is roughly 136 grief support conversations for every day of the year. Around 40% of these conversations are also with men, which is higher than non-anonymous options.

Next time I have Matt Rann back with me and we are going to be chatting about Huntington’s and how this diagnosis can have an impact on insurance applications.
