Treasury Committee approves appointments to the MPC and FPC
Following Wednesday’s hearing, the Treasury Committee has confirmed that it has approved the appointments of Andrew Haldane as a member of the Monetary Policy Committee, and Spencer Dale as a member of the Financial Policy Committee.
Commenting on the appointments, the Chairman of the Treasury Committee, Andrew Tyrie MP, said:
“The Committee is satisfied that Mr Haldane and Mr Dale have the professional competence and personal independence to be appointed to these Committees and wishes them every success in their new roles.
MPC and FPC roles are usually filled through open competition. The Bank did not follow that practice in this case. The wider reorganisation of the Bank might provide a measure of justification on this occasion, but the Bank should return to its usual practice of open competition for such appointments in future.”
