How the Coronavirus pandemic has changed UK homebuyers' purchase wish-lists
Back in 2019, Market Financial Solutions (MFS) conducted a survey called The Homebuyer Wishlist. Since the Coronavirus pandemic, there has been much conversation around a noticeable shift in the types of property potential buyers are purchasing. To understand whether this is actually happening, and the subsequent root cause of the differences, MFS conducted an updated Homebuyer Wishlist survey in 2021. The survey shows how Covid-19 has affected UK homebuyers and uncovers the imminent effects this will have on the property market, as well as finding out those Wishlist statistics.
The learning objectives for this article are to:
- Understand which aspects of a property UK buyers deem 'most important' when looking to buy
- Compare and contrast how the recent pandemic has altered the way potential homebuyers view a property
- Identify which regions in the UK have witnessed the greatest change in property demand
The MFS survey was undertaken by 2,000 adults in the UK who were in the process of buying, or were looking to buy, a residential property.
The top 3 property features for our UK Homebuyer Wishlist 2021, compared to their 2019 position:
1. Garden and/ or outdoor space (Up 1)
2. Square footage of the property (Down 1)
3. Broadband and mobile connectivity (Up 5)
