"We are of course sorry that Jayne-Anne Gadhia won’t be taking up her role as an external member on the Financial Policy Committee."

Jayne-Anne was due to take up her role in time for the FPC’s Q2 2019 round of meetings.

However, due to her recent appointment to an executive position at Salesforce UK, she told the Bank of England that she would not be able to commit the necessary time required to serve on the FPC.

The Treasury will now launch a new appointment process in due course in order to fill the vacancy. Martin Taylor will continue in his role on the FPC until April 2020.

Jayne-Anne was the CEO of Virgin Money from 2007 until 2018 and was given a damehood in the New Year's Honours List for services to women in the financial services.

She was appointed by the government as the official Women in Finance Champion to promote the benefits of a diverse workforce across the UK financial services sector.

A Bank of England spokesperson said: “We are of course sorry that Jayne-Anne Gadhia won’t be taking up her role as an external member on the Financial Policy Committee. We fully understand her decision and wish her well for the future.”
