10 Years of #FRAwards: 2016 - Royal London
In 2016, Royal London scooped Best Mortgage Protection Provider at the Financial Reporter Awards - in this piece, looking back over the last decade of the awards, we chat to Jennifer Gilchrist, Protection Specialist, about what that award meant for the company.
"Winning this award was a great complement to the hard work and effort we have put [in]"
Why was winning a Financial Reporter Award important for Royal London?
We were delighted to be recognised for our propositions which help people with their financial resilience when they make probably the biggest purchase in their lives. Winning this award was a great complement to the hard work and effort we have put into ensuring advisers and their clients have a great experience when purchasing protection.
What has changed for your business since 2016?
Since 2016 we have continued to work on providing help and support to advisers in the protection market. Our propositions have focused around the needs and wants of our customers so that we can provide good outcomes for them should they become ill, disabled or die. For example, our diabetes life cover has allowed more people to access insurance cover who may have found this difficult in the past.
What do you think has been the best development in the industry since 2016?
The level of development in the market has been unprecedented. Across all products we are seeing new developments allowing customers to personalise their cover, recognising that not all people are alike. Royal London was at the forefront of providing value propositions which provided more than just financial support. Helping Hand from Royal London continues to lead the market in providing emotional support for customers at their time of need. We continue to develop this recognising customer needs continue to evolve in this ever changing environment.
What advice would you give a business hoping to scoop an award this year?
If you have a standout development this year then go for it. Try to focus on what you do differently for your customers and how you have met their needs and exceeded them.
If you could pick one song to play at the Financial Reporter Awards party, what would it be?
Greatest Day by Take That.
